Welcome to Sixteen Sprigs Lavender Farm
Sixteen Sprigs is a small lavender farm located in the heart of Michigan. The farm is owned and operated by fourth generation farmer, Wynne Wright, retired MSU professor and late-blooming lavender enthusiast. Wynne spent her academic career studying women who farm and now is trying her own hand at making the world a better place by tilling the soil. Why lavender you ask? Lavender farming enables us to pursue our passion of bringing beauty into the world and preserving our rural and agricultural heritage, unlike many other crops.
There are a growing number of lavender farms in Michigan – almost 100 – and many are eager to grow in size but we prefer to maintain a small sustainable operation so that we can perform the labor without expensive mechanization or reliance on off-farm labor that is increasingly impossible to access. We also know there is value in being able to take care of the land, touch every plant, understand our own eco-system, and be a part of reinvigorating our community. While we may have only 1200 plants on our farm we still get to enjoy a vista of fields bathed in all manner of blues, purples, and periwinkles. Our fascination with this legendary crop continues to grow with additional plantings each spring as we find new ways to share the gospel of lavender with others. Currently, we focus on producing both Angustifolia lavenders and lavandins specifically suited to the unique sandy, loamy soils and cold climate of our Great Lakes region. At Sixteen Sprigs, we grow several varieties of lavender and offer “U-Pick” during the bloom season.
Lavender is in bloom in Michigan from mid-June to late July. At the farm we host tours and classes to learn more about this legendary herb during this time. You can also shop inside our on-farm retail store, enjoy lavender ice cream and just relax and rejuvenate as you stroll our fields. You won’t want to miss the purple haze and the heavenly scent wafting through the lavender. We can provide private tours for your group if you book in advance.
Want to buy our handcrafted lavender products? Visit us at the Meridian Farmers Market during the summer or any of the other retail stores that carry our lavender line. Follow us on Facebook for up-to-date announcements about where else we might ‘pop-up’. Thank you for visiting our site.
We hope you enjoy your stay and return often!
